This year's Toronto International Film Festival is shaping up to be an exciting one for music fans. Not only will André 3000's Jimi Hendrix biopic be making its debut, but Ron Howard's previously announced documentary about Jay Z's Budweiser Made in America Festival will also premiere.
Made in America includes excerpted performances from Pearl Jam, Odd Future, Dirty Projectors, Skrillex, Santigold, Janelle Monáe and Run-DMC. Other acts listed in the credits include Kanye West, D'Angelo, Gary Clark Jr., the Hives, Miike Snow and Passion Pit.
An official synopsis describes the film like this: "Drawn from an enormous trove of performance footage and backstage interviews, Made in America captures the inaugural edition of an exciting new festival created by rapper and impresario Jay Z."
It also documents Jay Z's rise to fame and serves as a love letter to the city of Philadelphia, where the event was held.
The flick is slated to show on September 7 at the TIFF Bell Lightbox. Ron Howard will be on hand for an onstage conversation about the movie.
