Jay Reatard's Lost Sounds Demos Compiled on New Release

Between the Reatards and his explosive solo career, fallen hero Jay Reatard was involved in numerous projects. One of the most exciting was the Lost Sounds, a synth-heavy punk band he fronted with Alicja Trout, Rich Crook and Patrick Jordan. Following a greatest-hits comp and a reissue of the band's debut seven-inch, the Lost Sounds will now unearth a collection of rare demos.

The release is called Lost Lost Demos, Sounds, Alternate Takes & Unused Songs, and features early and alternate versions of songs that later appeared on Black Wave and Rat's Brains and Microchips, along with unheard material that was never released.

As a press release explains, "The rare and unheard material ranges from captivating kitchen recordings and acoustic takes to fully realized studio tracks," adding that, "Covers of garage obscurities like 'I Cannot Lie' and originals like 'No Count' betray the garage rock sensibilities that Reatard was still shedding during the earlier years of the band, while later recordings show the electropunk and black metal influences that crept into their sound."

The release will be available as a CD or an LP with bonus seven-inch on May 1 via Goner Records.
