James Blake

"The Sound of Silence (Heathrow Edit)" (Simon & Garfunkel cover)

In the past year or two, post-dubstep dreamboat James Blake has made some residency appearances on BBC Radio 1. During the latest of these, the British songwriter shared a new recording: his cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence."

Blake preserves the structure and reverent tone of the original, as he croons the hymnal melody in soulful harmony. His arrangement ups the intimacy of the classic tune, as his voice is backed by nothing more than some quietly purring organ and ambient rustling. It's labelled a "Heathrow Edit."

Hear the entire residency show (which is co-hosted by Bon Iver's Justin Vernon) here or stream the song below.

Meanwhile, we're still waiting for Blake to release his previously promised album Radio Silence.
