We're still not even halfway through the year yet, but High on Fire fans may be itching for 2015 to get here quick since long-running metal trio have announced another album is due sometime around then.
Though the details are still shaping up, the band report in a press release that they've begun working on a proper follow-up to 2012's De Vermis Mysteriis. Song writing sessions have taken place in New Orleans, L.A. and Oakland, with early reports from the group suggesting this next song cycle will be "sonically huge."
"Des [Kensel, drummer], Jeff [Matz, bass] and I are really getting creative and writing a hell of a new record," guitarist/vocalist Matt Pike said in a statement. "It's a crazy project and I can't really explain what it's all about just yet, but we've been writing a lot of crazy intense material that will up the ante, and bring things to another level."
Kensel added of what the record may sound like: "Chew on some mescaline and listen to side B of Sabbath's Master of Reality backwards at 78 RPM and it might give you an idea."
Though a due date for the as-yet-untitled LP has not been decided upon, it should expect some time in the winter of 2015 via eOne.
Despite the De Vermis Mysteriis being the band's last official full-length, the last couple of years have seen them repress The Art of Self Defense, issue the Spitting Fire concert albums and deliver the "Slave to the Hive" single.
