Have Heart Members Reunite as Free, Release Demo

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Nov 30, 2015

Six years on from the demise of Massachusetts hardcore crew Have Heart, the bulk of the band have reunited for a new project called Free. Even better, the act is announcing itself with the unveiling of a furious and for-the-kids demo, which is streaming now.

While Have Heart called it quits back in 2009, members went on to perform over the last several years in outfits including Sweet Jesus, Clear, Fiddlehead and Wolf Whistle. Free brings back together vocalist Patrick Flynn, guitarists Kei Yasui and Ryan Hudon, and drummer Shawn Costa. They're joined by bassist Austin Stemper.

Free's four-song demo was recorded by Trevor Vaughan (Sex Positions, Soul Control), and finds the act taking aim at "mainstream fake hardcore" ("Vow") and anyone not keeping an open-mind in the punk scene ("MA Flex"). Guest vocalists on the set include former In My Eyes singer Sweet Pete and Youth Funeral's Casey Nealon.
