Hanni El Khatib and Freddie Gibbs

"Satin Black"

The genre-mashing sneaker suppliers at Converse have done it again. The latest tag-team single to be commissioned by the shoe company has got San Francisco psych-pop wonder Hanni El Khatib crooning alongside Indiana rapper Freddie Gibbs in an all-over-the-map arrangement called "Satin Black."

Up front, sustained distortion and a live drum groove have Gibbs going off with a series of Public Enemy and 2Pac references, and later focusing on court dates, making cheddar and more. A mellow mid-section flexing a symphonic string section and dub-style textures has Freddie Kane passing the mic to golden throated serenader Hanni El Khatib. The arrangement does a bit of a back-and-forth before calling it quits.

The CONS EP Vol. 3 lands later this spring, but you can check stream or download the smoothness of "Satin Black" down below.
