Supercrawl is set to return to the city of Hamilton at the end of summer, and organizers have now revealed the lineup for this year's event.
The annual free outdoor concert event will take place from September 11 to 13 on James Street in downtown Hamilton. There will be four stages set up to house headlining sets from Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Daniel Lanois, Monster Truck, Elliott Brood, Hayden, HEALTH, the Killjoys, and Fred Penner.
Also on the bill (in alphabetical order) are Rich Aucoin, Basement Revolver, Black Rhino Riot, the Bros. Landreth, Catl, Laura Cole, the Customaries, the Elwins, Eschaton, Friendly Rich, Michael Feuerstack, Frog Eyes, Grey Lands, Grey\Water, GUH, Hamilton Children's Choir, Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer, High Kites, Humans, Alyssa LeClair, Terra Lightfoot, Ariane Moffatt, Motel Raphaël, Not Of, Pet Sun, Rah Rah, Royal Canoe, the Sadies, Single Mothers, Spruce Invaders, Steve Strongman, Sun K, Tomi Swick, Twin Within, the Vaudevillian, Martin Verrall and Viet Cong.
In addition to a jam-packed weekend of free shows, there will also be two ticketed, Supercrawl-presented concert events in Hamilton leading up to the festival.
First, on August 7, Caribou will be joined by Jamie xx, Jessy Lanza and Egyptrixx for an evening of eclectic electronic music at Pier 4 Park. Tickets go on sale on June 19 for an early bird price of $29.95. Regular tickets will run you $35 in advance or $40 at the gates.
Then, on September 10, Whitehorse, Corb Lund and Etiquette will precede the weekend-long fest with a concert at the New Vision United Church.
In addition to the festival and concert announcements, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Michael Cocteau, and Minster of Finance, Charles Sousa, were present at the launch event to announce that the Ontario Music Fund would be extended permanently. It was initially introduced as a three-year, $45 million grant program to support the province's music industry.
