Four albums into their career, Gypsophilia are still messing with the formula. As a group of musicians who originally cut their teeth (and won hordes of fans) through their eclectic live performances, Gypsophilia have chosen to showcase their studio prowess on their latest LP, Night Swimming. Recorded at Joel Plaskett's studio in Dartmouth and produced by indie rock troubadour Joshua Van Tassel, Night Swimming finds the Halifax seven-piece opting to record their parts in a proper studio, abandoning the live method of recording they've grown comfortable with.

The results show a group of impressive musicians unafraid to show their mature side, as the album's nine tracks demonstrate an impressive range of moods, modes and techniques. Dancing around the musical themes of Henry Mancini ("Cake Walk"), Django Reinhardt ("Dirty Circus") and Gilles Peterson ("Night Falls and You Need Company"), the musicians in Gypsophilia seem ultra-focused and communicative enough to avoid stepping on each others' feet here, making Night Swimming the perfect mix of cerebral and primal.
