Gregory Pepper & MadadaM

'Big Huge Truck' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 10, 2013

When Gregory Pepper launched his indie-pop project Gregory Pepper & His Problems a few years ago, his hip-hop-leaning collaboration with producer MadadaM temporarily went by the wayside. On June 18, Gregory Pepper & MadadaM's long-in-the-works album, Big Huge Truck, will finally see release via Fake Four Inc. Until then, the whole thing is available to stream from Exclaim.ca.

The guest-heavy collection sports electronic hip-hop beats, West Coast-tinged synths, melodic singing and rapped guest verses. On the album, you'll find guests like Noah23, Open Mike Eagle, Awol One and Kirby Dominant.

The sounds range from glitchy, 8-bit-sounding electronics ("Stirring Dead Leaves") to jumbled, patchwork-style arrangements ("Sisyphean Rock") and mellow atmospherics ("Cautionary Tales"). Take a listen for yourself below.

Big Huge Truck will be available as a free download, with physical copies arriving on June 18. These include a limited-edition screenprint by Pepper.

Also this week, Pepper will play a few shows in Toronto as part of NXNE. You can check the schedule below.
