The Grapes of Wrath originally hail from Kelowna, BC, but it's been a whopping 21 years since they played a hometown gig. That will finally change on August 28, when the reunited folk rock band play a free gig at the city's Waterfront Park.
Not only does this represent the band's first Kelowna appearance in more than two decades, it also marks the 30th anniversary of their formation.
"We're thrilled that the gig happens to fall almost exactly 30 years to the day after the first time we ever performed publicly as the Grapes of Wrath in the basement of the French Cultural Centre at the corner of Bernard and Richter," singer-guitarist Kevin Kane said in a statement. "Talk about coincidence!"
It's worth noting that the band's 21-year absence from the Kelowna concert circuit isn't as neglectful as it initially seems — after all, the band were broken up from 1992 until 2010, aside from a brief duo reunion from members Kane and Tom Hooper.
The band released the comeback album High Road in 2012.
