The Go-Betweens have been inactive since the death of co-founder Grant McLennan in 2006. Since then, McLennan's songwriting partner Robert Forster has focused on his own career, and now he's ready to release a new solo album.
The LP is called Songs to Play, and it's due out on September 18 through Tapete Records. This is his first album in seven years, as it follows 2008's The Evangelist.
Evidently the seven-year wait was longer than Forster intended. He said in a statement [via Pitchfork], "I had originally envisaged the gap between my last album and my new one as five years. I wanted time to pass, for there to be a cut-off. I knew what happened next would be the start of something new. Five years became seven."
