Frederick Squire Lines Up New Solo Album

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jun 7, 2011

It wasn't so long ago that Maritime folky Frederick Squire released his solo debut March 12. Following his work with Shotgun & Jaybird, Mount Eerie and the East Coast supergroup Daniel, Fred & Julie (featuring Daniel Romano and Julie Doiron), the calm collection summed up Squire's "pure honesty and grit" within the folk medium. His latest album promises to entrench him in the genre's tradition even further.

A press release explains that Frederick Squire Sings Shenandoah and Other Popular Hits was written and recorded quickly, but Squire didn't skimp out on quality just to put out another record. The collection comes off extra intimate, though, with Squire capturing the magic with two microphones, a guitar and a pump organ.

As a whole, the record is said to explore folk conventions, with Squire's deep baritone waxing on "forgotten moral territory with a set of exceptionally written songs primarily about forgiveness."

You can download the low-key "All Things Past Serve to Guide You on Your Way" here.
