The Flaming Lips Reissue 'Clouds Taste Metallic'-era EPs for Record Store Day

BY Alex HudsonPublished Mar 2, 2015

The Flaming Lips never let Record Store Day pass without some sort of celebration, and this year's event on April 18 will be no exception, since the psych rock vets are planning to release a trio of archival 10-inches: Bad Days, This Here Giraffe and Brainville. These are all associated with the 1995 album Clouds Taste Metallic, which will be getting a 20th anniversary reissue later this year.

A press release [via Goldmine/Modern Vinyl] reveals that all three RSD discs come on fancy-coloured vinyl and include some non-LP tracks that haven't previously appeared on vinyl. A press release notes that these overseas rarities "will now become available for the first time EVER in any format in the US," although it's worth pointing out that the EPs are already on iTunes.

Bad Days will be released on snazzy-sounding solid white, transparent green and transparent yellow mixed-colour vinyl; This Here Giraffe will be on clear and solid orange mixed-colour vinyl, and Brainville will be on solid yellow vinyl. Each is limited to 5,000 copies.

There will also be a couple of T-shirts with art from the era available on RSD.

As for the forthcoming reissue of Clouds Taste Metallic, details are still forthcoming, but it will apparently be released in "expanded anniversary editions," so we can expect it to include some bonus material.
