Following Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord's death last month, his band's most successful album, Machine Head, is due to receive its owns star-studded covers collection. Entitled Re-Machined: A Tribute to Machine Head, the record will find a variety of artists covering songs from the band's classic 1972 album. It's due out September 25 via Eagle Rock Entertainment.

Among the contributors are the Flaming Lips, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Carlos Santana and Chickenfoot. There will also be some collaborative tracks featuring the likes of Steve Vai, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, onetime Deep Purple bassist Glenn Hughes, ex-Guns N' Roses members Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott, and more.

The tribute album will flesh out Machine Head's original seven-song tracklist by including two versions of both "Smoke on the Water" and "Highway Star," plus a cover of the album outtake "When a Blind Man Cries."
