Some 13 years after Austrian ambient master Christian Fennesz delivered his landmark Endless Summer, the record is now receiving a sequel. Dubbed Bécs, the album is set to arrive April 29 through Editions Mego.
Described in a press release as "the conceptual follow-up" to Endless Summer, Bécs (pronounced 'baeetch') is said to scale back the drones of Fennesz's last proper solo LP, 2008's Black Sea, in favour of "more florid pop mechanisms." The full-length was recorded and mixed at Vienna's Amann Studios between 2013 and 2014, and it's his first for Editions Mego since Endless Summer.
In addition to Fennesz's textural work, the record features drummer Tony Buck on 10-minute centrepiece "Liminality," has bassist Werner Dafeldecker and drummer Martin Brandlmayer adding "a range of atmospheric abstract effects" to "Static Kings," and finds Cédric Stevens playing modular synthesizer on "Sav," which he also co-wrote.
Just beneath the album's seven-song tracklisting, you'll find a stream of the static-scorched synth soundscape "The Liar."
