Father John Misty

"I'm Your Man" (Leonard Cohen cover) (live video)

Though Father John Misty — also known as former Fleet Foxes drummer Josh Tillman — is very upfront about being "Bored in the USA," he clearly has a great deal of affection for his neighbours to the north. For his first Canadian tour date promoting his smash sophomore LP, I Love You, Honeybear, he showed his love for our wintry wonderland by covering one of our nation's finest.

The sold-out Montreal crowd Monday night (February 16) was graced with a cover of local legend Leonard Cohen's "I'm Your Man," the title track from his 1988 classic. It's not the first time Misty has taken on Cohen — he covered "One of Us Cannot Be Wrong" for Mojo in 2012, and the "I'm Your Man" cover has popped up in a few gigs earlier this year — but it was his first time covering the Bard of the Boudoir in his home and native land, let alone hometown. The full-band arrangement infused Cohen's ballad with Misty's lovestruck Casanova vibes and featured a nice, glitzy keyboard solo.

Check out some fan-captured footage below. Misty will be rolling into Toronto on February 18, Vancouver on May 24 and Toronto again on June 7 for the Field Trip Music and Arts Festival.

UPDATE: You can catch a full version of the cover.
