After exiting Megadeth at the end of last year to pursue other "musical interests," drummer Shawn Drover and Chris Broderick have announced they're in a new group called Act of Defiance.
A press release confirms that the pair have already joined up with ex-Scar the Martyr singer Henry Derek and Shadows Fall bassist Matt Bachand to start the project, with recording sessions behind a to-be-detailed debut LP having started earlier this year with producer Zeuss (Rob Zombie, Hatebreed, Shadows Fall).Though the a street date has not been solidified, the album is expected to be delivered this summer through Metal Blade.
For now, you can sample a tidbit of new track "Throwback," an assemblage of hard-chugging licks, guttural howls, sung vocals and fast-thrashin' beats that apparently allude to the band's no-holds-barred approach to heavy metal.
"What thrills me the most is the fact that myself, Chris Broderick, Henry Derek and Matt Bachand all have in common is that from the get-go, we wanted this band to be 100 percuent PURE heavy metal! No compromises, no ulterior motives other than making the best heavy metal music we can," drummer Drover said in a statement. "Metal Blade shares this vision, which really puts us all on the same page, musically."
As previously reported, Drover had left Megadeth in late November with plans to pursue other "musical interests." The next day, Broderick had also revealed he'd decamped from the legendary thrash band, with whom he'd been playing with since 2008. Broderick had simply announced that it was time to move on.
Megadeth have yet to announce official replacements for either Drover or Broderick.
