Eighteen years after the birth of Erics Trip, the lo-fi trailblazers are making the jump to the big screen. This summer the documentary Erics Trip: 1990-1996 is set to premier at the Sappy Music Festival (Aug. 1 to 3) in Sackville, NB, and give fans an inside look on one of the most influential bands in Canadian musical history.
The documentary is culled from a mass of footage gathered by Erics Trip guitarist/vocalist/long-hair Rick White and follows the bands rise from the dusty basements of Moncton to Sub Pop darlings to playing sold-out shows across North America and Europe. As the title suggests, the film excludes the bands reunion activity from recent years and focuses on archival live footage, interviews and random White-approved images.
And if you wont be out east this summer, according to the bands MySpace page, a DVD release of Erics Trip: 1990-1996 is planned for sometime later this summer.
In other Erics Trip news, the band will be playing a short string of dates in Western Canada and one stateside for the Sub Pop 20th Anniversary Festival. Here are the dates:
