Emeralds Break Up

Emeralds Break Up
Remember a couple of weeks ago when Emeralds announced they'd keep the band going despite the departure of founding member Mark McGuire? Apparently, that isn't the case anymore, as fellow founder Steve Hauschildt has now announced he's leaving the project too, meaning the band is officially kaputt.

Hauschildt delivered a series of tweets this morning (January 18) outlining the demise of the well-respected electronic experimentalists, who originally got together in Cleveland in 2006.

"After much thought, I too have decided to leave Emeralds for personal reasons. The band is now over and all tour dates are cancelled," Hauschildt posted, effectively nullifying the proposed 2013 tour schedule that was to hit Australia, Europe, Japan and the U.S.

While he didn't get into why he was calling off the musical relationship with remaining member John Elliott, Hauschildt maintained that he's plenty proud of the troupe's output from start to finish. Their final LP was last fall's Just to Feel Anything.

"Our legacy is one to be felt, not remembered — the music always spoke for itself and will continue to do so as a testament to hard work," he wrote, adding, "Perhaps with time our sphere of influence will be better understood, but for now just 'Listen to a sound until you no longer recognize it'."

Hauschildt also noted he'll be focusing on his solo career from here on out. His last platter was 2012's Sequitur.

As for the other two members, they have yet to comment on the breakup, but it's unlikely we've heard the last from them. McGuire still has his solo career to focus on as well, while Elliott has his Spectrum Spools imprint to run and musical projects like Outer Space and Imaginary Softwoods to carry on with.
