Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros' Alexander Ebert Scores Robert Redford Film 'All Is Lost'

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros leader Alexander Ebert will follow his band's recent self-titled album with a new film score for the upcoming Robert Redford thriller All Is Lost. The soundtrack arrives October 1 via Community Music.

A press release notes that the score, composed and produced by Ebert, features 10 original compositions and one new song. You can stream the latter — a devastating, strings-and-piano-flitting torch song called "Amen" — below.

Written and directed by J.C. Chandor, All Is Lost is described as "an open-water thriller about one man's [Redford's] battle for survival against the elements after his sailboat is destroyed at sea."

The film hits screens October 18. You'll find a trailer at the bottom of the page.

"This project was a dream, an open space to play in but also space to listen to the elements — wind, water, rain sun, are the story's other characters to me," Ebert said in a statement. "I knew I had quite a task ahead of me: to at once allow the elements to sing and to give Redford a voice with which to, once in awhile, respond."

Ebert's last solo project was his 2011 set Alexander.
