Edmonton's I Hate Sex Prep EP and Tour, Premiere New Song

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 19, 2015

Edmonton's self-described "skramz/emo/screamo" combo I Hate Sex sure seem to dislike a lot of things. Not only do they have a coitus-disparaging band name, but they just rolled out a new single called "I Fucking Hate Sports" in advance of an EP and a Western Canadian tour.

The EP is called Circle Thinking, and the cassette will be out on July 31 through Pint-Sized Records. The band recorded the seven-song, 18-minute collection during a two-day session at Edmontone Studio with Doug Organ. The tracklist includes some rather funny song titles like "One by Metallica" and "You + Me = Slipknot." The cover artwork is above.

For a taste of Circle Thinking, check out the premiere of the shrieking and fiery (yet also melodic) "I Fucking Hate Sports" at the bottom of this page. According to an announcement, the song is "about love, existential crisis, and surprisingly has nothing to do with sports."

I Hate Sex have a sparse scattering of Alberta shows in June and July. After that, they will hit the road in earnest in the second half of August, spending a week playing in Saskatoon and British Columbia and sharing bills with La Luna and Anna Phorra. Scroll past the tracklist below to see the schedule.

In the interest of full disclosure, we should point out that bassist Jibril Yassin is an Exclaim! contributor.
