Edmonton Mayor Hints at Cease and Desist over Nine Inch Nails Parody Shirt

Last month, some Alberta politicians had Nine Inch Nails fans weeping for the state of humanity even more than usual when they parodied the band's iconic logo. To commemorate a meet-up between the NDP's Rachel Notley, Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson and Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi, they made Notley/Iveson/Nenshi shirts with the band's iconic logo. Now, Iveson has hinted that they were served with a cease and desist.

In a new interview with the CBC, Iveson offered one word about the shirt: "infringement," before adding, "We got advice that there were some concerns about the trademark and essentially to cease and desist."

He was also asked about whether or not he received one of the shirts. (After all, he's not pictured in the now infamous photograph available above.) With a laugh he replied, "On the advice of my attorney, I can't comment."

It's safe to deduce that Trent Reznor took a break from working on Apple Music to have his people shut the shirts down. And that's probably a good thing. After all, the best Nine Inch Nails parody logo of all time belongs to Christian ska band Five Iron Frenzy.
