Echo Lake / Gentle Friendly

"Wait Out" / "Quiet Storrrrrm" (split 7-inch)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jul 13, 2015

Busy Vancouver imprint Kingfisher Bluez has been looking to indie labels from around the world to help curate its Buddy System singles club, and the latest of these is Brighton, UK's FatCat Records. This new split single can be heard now.

The 7-inch contains two tracks, each from a different English group. Echo Lake offer up "Wait Out," a fuzzy indie pop number with an undercurrent of vintage psychedelia that emerges in the Mellotron-style synth flutes. On the flipside, Gentle Friendly's "Quiet Storrrrrm" similarly mixes rock urgency with spacious sonic textures; it's a quiet storm that simmers but never fully unleashes its fury.
