It's been an extremely fruitful couple of days for Drake. Just yesterday (February 12), the Canadian rap star released a short film called Jungle and the digital album If You're Reading This It's Too Late, and now we've learned that Drizzy has yet another project on the way. The concert documentary Drake's Homecoming: The Lost Footage will arrive March 19.
This film surrounds Drake's first Toronto show from 2009 at the Sound Academy, just as the former actor was beginning to achieve fame as a rapper. It's being executive produced by J. Prince and Jas Prince of Rap-a-Lot Records, who have been associated with Drake for many years; the story goes that Jas hooked Drake up with his mentor Lil Wayne back in the day.
Below, watch a trailer for Drake's Homecoming: The Lost Footage. Much of it consists of live footage from the show in question, but there are also a couple of interview snippets (not with Drake, mind you) suggesting that this will be more in-depth than a simple concert film. Bun B appears in the film.
An announcement explains, "This live sold-out concert filmed at Toronto's Sound Academy in 2009 just prior to Drake signing with Lil Wayne's Young Money was believed lost and destroyed. After its recent rediscovery, additional production footage was added to the concert film including interviews with James Prince and his son Jas Prince."
It's not clear if this film comes with Drake's blessing. His social media accounts are all focused on Jungle and If You're Reading This It's Too Late, and make no mention of this doc.
