Disappears

"Halcyon Days"

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Dec 5, 2014

As previously reported, Chicago post-rock outfit Disappears will, well, reappear this January via the release of their next full-length, Irreal. But the band have already the let a watery music video materialize for the set's "Another Thought," and now they've set us up with a stream of new tune "Halcyon Days."

A lightly funked drum groove is dialled up first in the piece, but the hip-swerving shuffle is subsumed by eerie guitar textures, paranormal white noise and various other spectral slaps of sound. Brian Case's monotone vocals likewise come in unsettling, but a bit of relief comes in via an ambient swell of six-string cloudiness.

Considering the song title, if this number has Disappears chiming in on the good old days, the future's going to be a pretty freaky scene.

You can stream the track down below, while Irreal arrives in full January 19 through Kranky.
