BY Alex HudsonPublished Nov 15, 2010

It's been an exciting couple of weeks for fans of the Decemberists. First, the Portland, OR group revealed that their sixth album, The King Is Dead, would be coming out in January. Next, they shared the album cover and spoke a bit about what the disc would sound like. Now, the bookish rockers have announced their first string of tour dates in support of the new record.

The North American run will last from late January through February, and includes two Canadian dates: Montreal on January 31 and Toronto on February 1. A UK tour will follow in March.

The tour is being called the Popes of Pendarvia World Tour 2011. See the schedule below. A limited pre-sale for the North American dates is taking place right here. Tickets are going on sale to the general public on Friday (November 19).

If you can't wait until the new year to see the Decemberists, they're set to play Conan on Thursday (November 18) with Gillian Welch. You can also check out a trailer for the new album below.
