Nettwerk Music Group is celebrating 30 years in the biz, and to mark the occasion, it is releasing a new compilation called Cover to Cover: 30 Years at Nettwerk.
The 14-song collection features covers of a wide-range of artists like Coldplay, Ron Sexsmith and Skinny Puppy, courtesy of artists like Joshua Hyslop, Great Lake Swimmers and members of Hey Ocean!
Hey Ocean!'s Dave Vertesi takes on Gob's pop punk classic "I Hear You Calling," and you can hear it first right now on Exclaim.ca.
It starts off almost unrecognizable from the original — stripped-down and featuring soft vocals, accompanied only by a piano. It gets filled in midway through with some twinkly synths and a drumbeat, giving the track a total makeover.
Who knew a Gob song could sound so sad? Listen to the new take on "I Hear You Calling" below before Cover to Cover: 30 Years at Nettwerk officially drops on January 27.
