David Gilmour

"Today"

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Sep 4, 2015

David Gilmour, who is not in Pink Floyd anymore, is living in the present. Ahead of dropping his new album, the classic rock icon has revealed a preview track titled "Today."

Though grounded in the now, the track does have a bit of an "Another Brick in the Wall Part 2" groove to it, which is not a bad thing. Above the propelling, danceable beat and a meshing of organs and guitars, a freed Gilmour sings about the weight of the world no longer resting upon his shoulders.

There's plenty of joy on the track, with symphony strings piping up in the mix, and Gilmour boasting "What a day it's been!"

A cynic may try to poke holes in the meaning of the song, or its dangerously Icarus-like spirit, but for now just give in to the seemingly good vibes. You can stream the single down below.

Gilmour's Rattle That Lock arrives in full September 18 through Sony Music. He has a North American tour coming up to promote the album, which hits Toronto next spring. You can see the full schedule here
