David Bowie sung about "Fashion" on 1980's Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps), and now he's getting involved in the fashion world in a much more direct way: by starring in a new campaign — with an associated short film — for French luxury label Louis Vuitton.
The Arizona Muse-starring, Romain Gavras-directed film is called L'Invitation Au Voyage. According to Vogue, the flick "[shows] the journey of the Vuitton woman" as she starts in Paris before taking a hot air balloon to Venice where she meets Bowie. This apparently resembles "a more glamorous version of the masked, surreal soirée seen in 1986 cult film Labyrinth."
Bowie's role in the film is a musical one, as he sings a song from his latest album, The Next Day. Reportedly, this is a special rendition of "I'd Rather Be High" on harpsichord.
The film promotes Louis Vuitton's new bag and watch. It will premiere via the brand's app on November 7, with a shortened version airing on television on November 10. Images from the campaign will appear in magazines and newspapers soon. That's one of the campaign images above.
Watch a bite-sized preview of the film below.
Bowie clearly has a great interest in fashion; his wife Iman is a model, he has performed at fashion shows, and, uh, appeared in Zoolander.
