David Bowie's high-profile 2013 is about to get even crazier, with a new travelling art exhibit titled David Bowie Is premiering at Toronto's Art Gallery of Ontario later this fall.
A press release confirms that the exhibit runs September 25 to November 27 on the fourth and fifth floors of the AGO's contemporary tower, and will display "Bowie's own handwritten set lists, lyrics, diary entries, instruments and sketches," among other treasures.
Specifically, you'll be able to peep 50 of Bowie's old stage costumes, including Ziggy Stardust bodysuits designed Freddie Burretti. Also being shown are set designs created for 1974's Diamond Dogs tour, album artwork from throughout Bowie's career, and photographs by Helmut Newton, Brian Duffy and John Rowlands.
The exhibit will also show footage from Top of the Pops, Bowie's 1976 feature film The Man Who Fell to Earth and the Klaus Nomi- and Joey Arias-assisted appearance on Saturday Night Live in 1979. Also being screened are the David Mallet-directed videos for "Boys Keep Swinging" and "Let's Dance," among others.
Last March, Bowie issued his The Next Day LP, his first in 10 years. A documentary titled David Bowie — Five Years premiered last month on BBC, and a biopic called Lust for Life is in the works.
