Dave Grohl Announces 'Sound City' Live Band: Sound City Players

Not only has Dave Grohl's documentary, Sound City, been given a star-studded soundtrack, it has now spawned a live band. The busy Foo Fighters leader has formed a group called Sound City Players, who will make their debut at this year's Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT.

The band will perform at Park City Live on January 18. This will help to promote the film's premiere at Sundance.

It's not yet clear who will be playing alongside Grohl. According to a press release, "The concert will feature core musicians and special guests from Grohl's Sundance Film Festival selected film Sound City."

The artists who appear on the soundtrack include Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age/Kyuss), Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails/How to Destroy Angels), Tim Commerford (Rage Against the Machine), Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine), Rick Springfield and Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), so this is likely to be a star-studded event.

The band will likely jam some of the original material from the film. Here's hoping that Grohl takes the group on tour and this isn't simply a one-off.

Sound City goes on sale digitally starting February 1. The soundtrack, Sound City - Real to Reel, follows on March 12. Watch a trailer below.
