Darren Aronofsky Signs on to Direct Lou Reed and Metallica Video

Director Darren Aronofsky evidently hasn't been reading the reviews for Lou Reed and Metallica's new train wreck of an album Lulu. Either that, or he doesn't care that the LP has been called -- as our reviewer put it -- "useless, annoying and pretentious." Whatever the case, the filmmaker behind The Wrestler, Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream has signed on to direct a music video for Loutallica.

The Oscar-nominated director will be making a clip for the track "Iced Honey," which, uh, we suppose isn't quite as bad as some of the other songs on Lulu. A post on Loutallica's official website reveals that the performance-based video is being shot in the San Francisco Bay Area and will be released later this month.

According to the Associated Press, Hollywood cinematographer and frequent Aronofsky collaborator Matthew Libatique (Black Swan, Iron Man) is on board as director of photography.

In the announcement, drummer Lars Ulrich wrote, "As if making a record with Lou Reed is not enough... now I get to make a video with Darren Aronofsky, who has been among my very favorite filmmakers since his first movie, Pi. This is turning into a monumental chapter in the on-going saga entitled 'Lars Ulrich... living the dream!!!'"

Meanwhile, Reed said, "I hope I can be his next Black Swan."

Sorry, Lou, but we don't really think that's going to happen. After all, Black Swan was nominated for five Oscars and Natalie Portman won Best Actress. And as for Lulu, well, we probably don't need to remind anyone about those reviews.
