Darlene Love Gets Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello for New Album

Thanks to the documentary 20 Feet from Stardom — not to mention all those gratuitous pressings of Phil Spector's Christmas album — veteran vocalist Darlene Love has been gaining increased recognition in recent years. Now, she's preparing to make her comeback official with a new album.

The album is called Introducing Darlene Love and it will be out early this fall through Wicked Cool Records/Columbia Records. It was produced by E Street Band guitarist Stevie Van Zandt, who arranged the songs. Other contributors include Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Stevie Van Zandt, Jim Webb, Linda Perry, Desmond Child, Joan Jett, and the songwriting duo of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.

According to a press release, the album "[echoes] the classic recording style of many early '60s pop standards," meaning that it may bear some sonic similarities to the septuagenarian singer's classic work with Spector. This will be her first new album since the '90s.

Van Zandt said in a statenent, "Darlene's legendary status is well deserved but I felt the time was long overdue to show a younger generation WHY she has earned that reputation. Partnering with Columbia Records is a dream come true because now I know the world will hear her."

Stay tuned for more details about Introducing Darlene Love to emerge in the coming weeks and months.
