D'Angelo

Live on 'SNL'

As scheduled, elusive R&B hero D'Angelo made his way to the Saturday Night Live stage last night (January 31), giving the audience a double dose of his Black Messiah. It marked his first TV appearance since the album's release late last year, and it certainly didn't disappoint.

Backed by a hefty cast of players and backup singers, D'Angelo delivered Black Messiah tracks "The Charade" and "Really Love." The singer also used the opportunity to highlight the recent unrest in the U.S., with his band sporting "I can't breathe" T-shirts, while in the middle of the stage there was an outline of a body, no doubt referencing the recent deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.
