Despite the music world's attention fixed squarely on SXSW, a lot happened in the week of news, whether you noticed or not. For a recap of what made headlines, here's our news roundup.
First off, we got one step closer to making that new Daft Punk album a reality, as songwriter Paul Williams revealed he has written some new material with the helmed duo. And while nothing's for certain, Williams even said that we could see the as-yet-untitled new studio effort by June.
On the lawsuit front, Queen of the Stone Age Josh Homme is suing his former bandmates in Kyuss Lives!, something the group are "shocked and saddened" by, while Billy Corgan decided to unload a bucket of hate on the modern music world. Plus, Childish Gambino had a rough week after breaking his foot and being forced to postpone many of his North American tour dates.
In Canada, it was a major week for music festival announcements. In the last couple of days, we got lineup announcements from Montreal's MUTEK and Suoni Per Il Popolo fests, as well as Toronto's Luminato. Also, Montreal's Osheaga revealed some of its lineup, confirming Black Keys, Florence and the Machine, the Shins, M83 and Justice will all play the 2012 edition.
Also in Canadian music news, Calgary record store Inner Sleeve bought up a chunk of the CBC's CD/LP archives following a decision by the broadcaster to dismantle them, while Vancouver punk favourites White Lung told Exclaim! all about their new full-length.
