The Cult are going strong almost 30 years since they originally formed, and now the British rock outfit are getting ready to drop their first album since 2007's Born into This. Entitled Choice of Weapon, the album will arrive in Canada today (May 22) through eOne Music, but before you pick it up in stores, have a listen to the entire record at Exclaim.ca.

A press release notes that these ten songs "reveal the band at its rawest and most visceral, encapsulating cinematic visions and themes of love, revolt, and redemption." The tracks were laid down between July and December of last year in a variety of locales including New York City, Los Angeles, the California desert and the band's own Witch Mountain studios in Hollywood.

Choice of Weapon was produced by Bob Rock (Metallica, Bon Jovi) and Chris Goss (Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss). According to guitarist Billy Duffy, the results are among the band's best work to date.

"We went deeper," he said in a statement, "we worked a bit harder on this record. We have great fans and they deserve our best, and I feel this is one of our best records, maybe the best."

The songs were written by Duffy and singer Ian Astbury. Take a listen below.
