Long-running British black metal combo Cradle of Filth delivered their instrumental compendium Midnight in the Labyrinth in April, and the ultra-prolific group will keep focusing on their past via a series of summer reissues.
The band have teamed up with the End Records to issue eight reissue packages, some for the first time ever in North America. According to a press release, six of these sets will hit retailers July 3. Included in the first wave of reissues are the group's 1997 breakthrough Dusk and Her Embrace; its 1998 follow-up Cruelty and the Beast, which will include a five-song bonus CD; and 2000's Midian.
The group's 1999 EP From the Cradle to Enslave, which features a cover of the Misfits' "Death Comes Ripping" and a re-recorded version of Dusk and her Embrace number "Funeral in Carpathia," also arrives July 3, as does the early album sampler Lovecraft & Witch Hearts. The latter, a two-disc set, collects the cream of the crop from the early albums, as well as a bonus disc of B-sides and rarities.
Also included in the first run of reissues is Cradle of Filth's PanDaemonAeon DVD, which collects music videos and concert footage from the group's performance at London's Astoria on June 5, 1998.
Two final reissues will be delivered on July 21, and they're both being delivered in North America for the very first time. Cradle of Filth's 1994 debut disc The Principle of Evil Made Flesh is described as "Cradle's rawest and most authentic black metal recording," while 1996's Vempire Or Dark Faerytales added longtime back-up vocalist Sarah Jezebel Deva to the mix. Deva left the group in 2009.
Despite the hefty reissue campaign, Cradle of Filth haven't offered any new material since the one-two punch of 2010's Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa and its companion EP Evermore Darkly.
