Converse Launches Kurt Cobain Sneakers

If lunch boxes, action figures and Doc Martens ads weren’t enough, Kurt Cobain’s is getting his own signature shoe. Converse is currently producing a limited-edition series of Cobain-branded footwear as part of the company’s 100th anniversary sales campaign, dubbed "Welcome to the Converse Century.”

Each shoe will come peppered with drawings and writings that were published in 2002’s Journals, and making the private all that much more public. And not just one model of shoe is coming but several, with the Converse One Star model and a series of high-top Chucks already confirmed, according to NirvanaClub.com.

The product line comes with the full cooperation of Courtney Love, who initially green-lighted the project, as well as a previous 2007 auction of the dead rock star’s memorabilia "to make a lot of money.”

While the Converse Century campaign is also using images of several other artists, such as Ian Curtis, M.I.A. and Hunter S. Thompson, who they are calling Converse Century Icons, the Cobain is not one of these "icons.”

Converse will release the full details of the shoes in April.
