Coeur de Pirate

"Flume" (Bon Iver cover) on Exclaim! TV

BY Matthew RitchiePublished Mar 27, 2014

Canadian chanteuse Coeur de Pirate (real name Béatrice Martin) is an accomplished singer-songwriter in her own right. But for her most recent full-length, the soundtrack to the fifth season of the hit Canadian medical drama Trauma, she let the words of other songwriters do the talking, creating an album made entirely out of covers.

While on break in Toronto, Exclaim! TV met up with Martin to hear an exclusive live rendition of Bon Iver's "Flume," the final track from her recently released LP.

Performing in pure de Pirate fashion (i.e. with nothing more than a piano and her own heavenly vocals), listen as Martin transforms the buoyant acoustic ballad into a plaintive piano number, adding weight to Justin Vernon's otherwise fluttery falsetto.

Check it out now in the player below. Don't forget to catch Coeur de Pirate in the flesh May 31 at Toronto's historic Massey Hall.
