Coachella, Lollapalooza Issue Ban on Selfie Sticks

If you were hoping to look like a moron while you traipse around the festival grounds at Coachella or Lollapalooza this year, you're out of luck — at least when it comes to using a selfie stick.

Coachella and Lollapalooza are the first of the major summer festivals to officially add the camera attachments to their lists of prohibited items, as pointed out by Brooklyn Vegan.

The trend of banning selfie sticks seems to be growing faster than the popularity of the item itself, with UK venues like O2 Arena and Wembley prohibiting them earlier this year over safety concerns, as have cultural landmarks like Washington's Smithsonian museums, Rome's Colosseum and London's National Gallery.

Justification for the bans most commonly cite providing safe, enjoyable and distraction-free experiences for all customers and visitors.

While other major fests like Bonnaroo and Governors Ball have yet to issue formal bans on the extendable selfie-taking assistants, you should probably take the hint, preserve your dignity and resort to using your trusty old arms to document that Nashville-filtered concert experience this summer.

Coachella takes place in Indio, CA, from April 10 to 12 and April 17 to 19, while Lollapalooza happens at Chicago's Grant Park from July 31 to August 2.
