Cloud Nothings' Dylan Baldi Confirms Collaborative Album with Wavves: "We're Almost Done!"

Although Cloud Nothings' fourth album, Here and Nowhere Else, is out in less than a week, and Dylan Baldi is about to embark on an lengthy tour, he still refused to rest before hitting the road. Instead, the songwriter spent the last 10 days in Los Angeles, writing a collaborative album with Nathan Williams of Wavves. Baldi previously mentioned to French publication Dum Dum in February that "I should go to California in March to record some stuff with them," but now, the Cloud Nothings frontman tells Exclaim! that the project is pretty much done, and was "super easy."

"I woke up one morning hungover in Paris, which is where I usually live, and I just had a text on my phone that was like, 'Yo, wanna make a record together?'" says Baldi of the collaboration's origins. "I was like '...Okay!' And that was it. It sounded fun."

Baldi confirmed the album's completion on the Cloud Nothings Twitter in a now deleted tweet, but explains on the phone that he's been in Los Angeles' Eagle Rock neighbourhood for the past 10 days, writing and recording with Williams.

"The whole time I've been here we've been recording, all day, every day. We're almost done! Everything's shaping up."

Baldi says they've recorded, "I think, eight good ones," but that the songs don't sound like either Cloud Nothings or Wavves. "More between, and also not the things either of us do. It's between and [there's] also another element that wasn't present in either of our music before."

While Baldi declines to talk in depth about the collaborative record, he maintains that "the songs are good" and that he's "excited about them."

He adds: "I think they'll be out there somewhere. We have to do something with them. Working with him has been super easy. Everything we do is like — I'll play something and he'll be like, 'That's cool,' and then he'll play something and I'll be like, 'That's cool, too.' There's never any kind of butting heads. It's easy."

Though release details for the collaboration remain up in the air, Cloud Nothings fans still have the entirety of Here and Nowhere Else to look forward to for now: the LP is out April 1 through Carpark/Mom + Pop, and as you can see below, the band have a massive tour ahead of them.
