Last year, Clientele frontman Alasdair MacLean branched out by teaming up with Lupe Núñez-Fernández of Pipas to release an album as Amor de Días. Now, the duo are back with another album. Entitled The House at Sea, it will arrive on January 29 through Merge.
The collection was recorded by Brian O'Shaughnessy (My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream, Beth Orton). The entire thing was captured and mixed in just nine days, and the quick turnaround reportedly gave the sessions a certain raw urgency.
MacLean and Núñez-Fernández appear on Spanish guitars, joined occasionally by a rhythm section. A press release explains, "The House at Sea is a snapshot of a year's songs written in London and Madrid. There are pop songs, delirious dream accounts, strange lyrical puzzles, and stories from the city and the suburbs. The theme of the sea threads its way throughout the record along with a gentle sense of drifting and departure, of being lost, of saudade — a sadness at lost things."
