Chris Cornell

"Worried Moon"

Chris Cornell is best known for Soundgarden's grungy alt-rock (and, more regrettably, for Scream's poppy R&B). His new solo album Higher Truth, however, seems to be shaping up to be a more folksy affair than usual. This impression is reinforced by the newly unveiled "Worried Moon."

Although Cornell's yowl sounds much like is always has, the folksy guitar plucking and old-school chord changes suggest something more traditional. The groove does fully take hold during the chorus, and the arrangement has a mixture of hip-hop, folk, pop and rock that oddly recalls the outdated sounds of Meredith Brooks and Dido.

Higher Truth due out on September 18 through Universal.
