Chance the Rapper made a massive splash with last year's Acid Rap mixtape, but MC has yet to give us a substantial follow-up. That may soon change, however, as he's announced the he and his band the Social Experiment have a series of new projects in the works.
In a new interview with Billboard, Chance said he's been in a Los Angeles studio with the Social Experiment, and their first release will be called Surf. This album will highlight trumpet player Nico Segal (a.k.a. Donnie Trumpet), with Chance also contributing. It will be available online for free before the end of the year.
After that, the Social Experiment will continue to release new projects, with each one highlighting different members of the group. One of these will be called SOX. Recently, Chance shared the new tracks "No Better Blues" and "Wonderful Everyday: Arthur." However, it's unclear at this point which project these will be attached to.
Among the artists who have joined the group in the studio are Frank Ocean, Rick Rubin, J. Cole and Migos, although it's not entirely clear whose contributions will see the light of day. Of course, Jessie Ware and Wyclef Jean are on "Wonderful Everyday: Arthur."
Looking ahead to next year, the Social Experiment are planning more releases, and Chance described their tour plans like this: "We've been really, really focused on The Lion King musical and stage design and use of props in the theatre setting and trying to make a very cool musical-kinda thing. Like musical theatre."
