Chairs, the lo-fi rock project from Montreal's Ian Jarvis, played their set as a four-piece, bringing Jarvis's recordings to life with a crunchy blend of guitars and drums. The group kicked off their opening set with two new songs that employed the elements to good use, melding pop sensibility with plenty of reverb.

Songs from their 2012 album The Droning of an Insect Wings were also well executed live, including the upbeat, backing-track driven "Indestructible Machine" and the grim "Future," featuring bleak imagery and strong riffs. The set closed with "Tide Pools," a track led by Jarvis's fast picking to craft a woodsy opening riff. The band is definitely off to a solid start, and with a few more hooks and stronger stage presence, could definitely become a formidable presence in the Montreal scene.
