Cassette Store Day Reveals 2015 Exclusives

Vinyl isn't the only vintage physical format on the rise these days. Cassettes have also enjoyed a resurgence, and while this groundswell movement isn't nearly as far reaching as the vinyl comeback, tape lovers now have cause to celebrate: Cassette Store Day is coming back for its third annual instalment.

The event takes place internationally on October 17. It started in the UK in 2013 before Burger Records helped to bring it to North America in 2014; this year's instalment also includes partners in Australia, New Zealand and Germany.

The initial list of U.S. releases has now been announced. There are a few dozen titles, ranging from minor indie releases to mainstream bands and major labels. Albums that will be getting tape pressings include Green Day's Dookie, Foals' What Went Down, STRFKR's Reptilians and Chris Walla's Tape Loops. There are also a couple of release that seem to be original exclusives, such as Beach Slang's HERE, I MADE THIS FOR YOU (Beach Slang Mixtape Volume I) and Sebadoh's KRCtroubleyou (which we're guessing is a live KRCW session).

Cassette Store Day co-founder Jen Long said in a statement, "Cassette tapes aren't just a format, they're a culture, and cassette culture is as much about collaboration as doing it yourself. This year we've gone even further to try and include as many tape fans around the world. We want as many people as possible to be able to get involved and put out a tape, put on a gig or event, or get hold of that release they really want."

See the list of U.S. releases (which will hopefully make their way to Canada as well) that have been announced so far down below, and check out the list of participating stores. Although nearly all the stores are in the U.S., Vancouver's Horses Records is also signed up. In addition to the tapes that are coming to the U.S., there's also a separate list of UK releases at this point.
