Sleater-Kinney's Carrie Brownstein has made the successful leap to television with the hipster send-up show Portlandia, and now she's pressing ahead with her acting career. Next, she will be heading to the big screen by appearing in the forthcoming film Carol.
Directed by Todd Haynes (I'm Not There, Velvet Goldmine), it's based on Patricia Highsmith's 1952 novel The Prince of Salt and is a romantic drama about a lesbian relationship between a department store clerk and an older customer.
The film stars Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara as the central couple. The cast also includes Kyle Chandler and Sarah Paulson. According to the Hollywood Reporter, "Brownstein will play Genevieve Cantrell, a woman who has an encounter with Therese [played by Mara]."
Carol is filming throughout the spring in Cincinnati, although the film is set in New York.
