Alternative music fans in Calgary will be disappointed to learn that this weekend's X-Fest has been cancelled due to "adverse weather."
The event, which was scheduled to take place on September 5 and 6 at Fort Calgary, was officially cancelled two hours after its gates were supposed to open. Initially, Union Events said they were delaying the festival's opening. Then, they released a statement saying that the whole thing was cancelled.
"In the interest of public safety, and due to adverse weather conditions, we regretfully announce the cancellation of the 2015 edition of X-Fest Calgary," the statement reads. "Heavy rain over the last 24 hours has created an unsafe environment to proceed with the festival."
Artists scheduled to perform at X-Fest include Ellie Goulding, Alexisonfire, Hozier, Tenacious D, Brandon Flowers, Mother Mother, TV on the Radio, Tokyo Police Club, the Rural Alberta Advantage, Kongos, St. Lucia, Big Data, Robert Delong, K-Os, Eagles of Death Metal, the Elwins and Gay Nineties.
Refunds for the festival are available at point of purchase. Alternately, those desperate to see those bands are also invited to drive up to Edmonton, where their tickets will get them into the Sonic Boom festival, which has the same lineup and takes place on the same days.
