Calgarians may need a bit of a breather this June after Sled Island wraps up, but festival season kicks up hard and heavy again in July via the 33rd annual Calgary Folk Music Festival. While some details are pending, the long-running event, taking place July 26 to 29 at Prince's Island Park, has unfurled a first wave of acts appearing at the 2012 edition.

Artists announced thus far include a few heavy-hitters, including Neutral Milk Hotel leader Jeff Mangum, songwriting legend Randy Newman, twangy country folkster Justin Townes Earle, worldly troubadours Beirut, Sinead O'Connor, and Iron and Wine, among others.

The Calgary Folk Fest has also announced a handful of Canadian acts heading out for the event, including Rural Alberta Advantage, husband-and-wife duo Whitehorse, Serena Ryder and the Barr Brothers.

A full lineup, 68 acts in all, is expected to drop April 26. For now, you can get more info, such as ticket details, over on the festival website.
