Cadence Weapon

'Hope in Dirt City' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 22, 2012

After a few months of hints and hype, Prairie rapper Cadence Weapon (aka Roland Pemberton) is now ready to release his latest full-length album. Hope in Dirt City drops on May 29 through Upper Class Recordings, but before it arrives on shelves, you can stream the whole thing here on Exclaim.ca.

A press release promises that the album is a "ground-breaking achievement in hip-hop" that is "composed of a unique hybrid of psychedelic soul, old-school rap, IDM and mutant disco."

The album was created using a unique approach that saw Pemberton composing with samples and then adapting these songs into full-band arrangements with drums, bass, saxophone, guitar and strings. The performances were then sampled and tinkered with, making for a one-of-a-kind blend of samples and live performance.

Listen to the album below, and be sure to catch Cadence Weapon on the road in Canada and the U.S. when he tours with Japandroids next month.

UPDATE: This stream was available for one week only and is no longer available.
